A DISASTER THAT COULD HAVE BE AVOIDED...

     It is no longer news that the biggest supermarket in benin worth billions of naira was yesterday razed down by an inferno that lasted over ten hours. The question on everyone's lips is how could a supermarket of such magnitude and size be burnt beyond recognition without any negligence either on the side of the owner, manager or the state fire service department.

       Earlier, the Managing Director of the Super Mart, Mr. Philip Edigin, said the fire started at around midnight. He disclosed that all efforts to get the state fire service to come to their rescue proved abortive as the fire service told him it had no diesel to work.

       Now on the part of the managers of phil hallmark, the question is where there fire and smoke detector installed in the building ? and if it was installed why didn't it give the warning, and if it did give the warning, why was power supply to the building not cut off as it is said that the fire could have started from an electrical fault.
        Well from the following i believe the investigators will have an head start in ascertaining the real cause of the fire as the governor of the state Godwin Obaseki as said  full investigation would be conducted into the cause of the fire and also investigate the claim by an official of the state fire service on the allegation of lack of equipment, because I understand trucks were distributed by the NDDC and the state government during the last administration,”
